The expansion of educational facilities of centers of higher education has caused most of the provinces of Iran to have comprehensive universities today. Imam Khomeini International University of Qazvin is one of these comprehensive universities that has achieved great progress in terms of academic level among university campuses located outside the capital. This university considers admitting non-Iranian students and expanding its relationship with foreign scientific and educational centers to be a practical method for scientific and educational growth.

History

The establishment of Imam Khomeini International University of Qazvin was initiated after the approval of a bill by the Iranian parliament. This bill was presented to the parliament in 1983 with the aim of establishing an international Islamic center of higher education and after the bill was passed, the Quds International University started its activities in the same year.

This academic center was, thereafter, merged with the Dehkhoda Higher Education Complex and was named Imam Khomeini International University. This center operates as a comprehensive university of Qazvin province and is among the top universities in Iran.

Faculties and Activities

Located over an area of 230 hectares, this university has the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Islamic Sciences and Researches
  • Faculty of Literature and Humanity
  • Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Technical and Engineering
  • Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism
  • Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources

The university also has a “Persian Language Center” the main task of which is to organize courses and workshops to teach Persian language to non-Persian speakers. The trainings of this center are based on the four main language skills and are held at basic to advanced levels.

The university offers three courses at the discontinuous bachelor’s level, 39 courses at the continuous bachelor’s level, one course at the continuous master’s level, 57 courses at the discontinuous master’s level, and 37 courses at the doctorate level.

Research Facilities of Imam Khomeini International University

The Research Center for Future Studies of Imam Khomeini International University was established in 2011 and, presently, five scientific groups operate under its supervision.

Out of the 21 Research journals published by Imam Khomeini International University three are in English and 18 in Persian. The total number of published issues of these publications has exceeded 300 and more than 2500 articles of these publications are available to researchers.

The library of Imam Khomeini International University was also inaugurated in 1999 as a modern library with an overall space of more than four thousand square meters. The central laboratory of this university provides services to students and researchers by having advanced and accurate devices in the fields of spectroscopic analysis, elemental analysis, thermal analysis, and chromatography.

The existence of a science and technology park next to this university, which was established with the aim of supporting scientific and educational sectors economically, has made it possible for academics to receive economic benefits from their research. This center was founded in 2005.

The number of Iranian and non-Iranian students at the university stands at about 9 thousand people, of which more than 2 thousand are pursuing their postgraduate education.

International Activities

In order to improve the quality of its educational services, Imam Khomeini International University has formed collaborations and signed MOUs with some foreign universities such as the Spanish University of Valencia in the field of research in chemistry and certain Russian universities in different fields. It has also held meetings with the officials of the Shanghai International University. This academic center admits non-Iranian volunteers and students every year and presently about 400 students, most of whom are from Iran’s neighboring countries, are studying at this university. Owing to the suitable facilities that have been provided for foreign students, some students from 15 different nationalities are pursuing their higher education at this university.

Imam Khomeini International University is one of the most important universities in Iran. According to the Shanghai Ranking published in 2023, this university has, by acquiring a ranking of 151 to 200 in the field of engineering and mechanical engineering, succeeded in manifesting itself as one of Iran’s leading universities.
