UBC National Quran Competitions 2025

The Quran Competition was organized by Uganda Broadcasting Corporation with support from the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kampala.

This Competition attracted Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary at Ministry of ICT and National guidance, Mr. Maurice Mugisha Herbert, Deputy Managing director of Uganda Broadcasting corporation, Hon. Issah Katungulu Luyimbaazi, the African Youth Ambassador, Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, Iranian Cultural Counsellor, H.E. Mr. Majid Saffar, Iranian Ambassador, Mr. Makoma Ibrahim, board member of UBC.

According to UBC, more than 200 Participants showed interest from the beginning of the competition on 1st of Ramadhan 2025.

20 Islamic schools participated by sending participants to these competitions

The competition had 5 Judges which comprised of Sheikh Ssentingo Ahmada, chairman of the jury committee, Sheikh Muhammad Lugoloobi,Sheikh Saad Habibu Kaweesa,Sheikh Ali Kulumba,Hajat Zainab Ghasemi Abbasi from Iran.

 

The competition had 4 Categories:

1 Juzu for children below 10 years of age,

10 juzus,15 juzus; Half Quran,Whole Quran, Tahqiiq.

Mr. Maurice Mugisha Herbert, Deputy Managing director of Uganda Broadcasting corporation welcomed the Iranian Ambassador and Cultural Counsellor for always supporting the National Quran Competitions.

He thanked the judges, participants and sponsors who managed to reach out to the national broadcaster.

He thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for always standing out and mentioned about the ongoing discussion to have Iranian content running on their television stations.

Mr. Makoma Ibrahim, board member of UBC commended organizers and Iran embassy in the initiative. He noted that organizing such competitions during the holy month of Ramadhan is vital in which the Quran was revealed.

He appreciated the Iranian Ambassador for the cooperation in having successful recognition of Quran.

 

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary at Ministry of ICT and National Guidance recognized the continued cooperation by the Iran embassy and UBC.

She commended the continuous training of youths with religious ethics and values through Memorization and Recitation of the holy Quran which make them righteous members of the society.

He rallied participants to exhaust ICT skills in their daily lives to foster development and improvement of service delivery.

She commends everyone who participated in the Quran competition.

She thanked the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran for supporting Islamic culture and development in Uganda which nurture generations to generations. She mentioned about the digital transformation cooperation that the government is seeking with Iran government.

 

Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Iranian Cultural Counsellor recognized the presence of guests including The Ambassador of I.R. IRAN, Permanent Secretary from Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, the deputy managing Director – UBC, Jury committee and Participants and parents

I would like to commend the management of UBC and participating stakeholders for organizing this UBC Quran Competitions 2025.

He congratulated all participants for taking their time and efforts to make the holy Quran shine in their lives especially in this month of Ramadhan in which it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Quran competitions are valuable as they promote Quran literacy, encourage recitation and memorization, and foster a deeper understanding and love for the Quran, which is central to Islamic faith and culture. 

The Qur'an teaches us how to live in peace and harmony with others and safeguards us against the traps of an unrestrained lifestyle. The Qur'an offers us multiple opportunities to reform ourselves and our lives, teaches us the importance of maintaining family ties, and much more.

We shall continue to partner with UBC to organize these competitions to promote values such as compassion, generosity, and humility, and emphasizes the importance of good deeds and moral behavior in the society.

 

H.E. Mr. Majid Saffar, Iranian Ambassador noted that it's a noble duty that we are having Quran Competitions in the holy Quran when it was revealed to prophet Muhammad as a clear truth to mankind.

Ramadhan is the best time to reflect on the teachings of patience, forbearance, justice, strong family life and Relations which goes beyond diplomacy.

He informed participants about the visit of Mufti of Uganda who participated in the international Quran exhibition in Tehran which open doors of cooperation and collaboration with different religious leaders from allover the world.

He noted that the media plays a vital role in shaping the society. He therefore commended UBC for expanding Quranic Competitions using their media platforms.

He noted some opportunities that Iran government is offering to Uganda through extending scholarships in different fields.
