20 February 2025 The Zimbabwe Iran Friendship Association is set to be relaunched following a visit to the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Iran by Zimbabwe’s parliamentary portfolio committee chairperson on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honorable Webster Shamu this Wednesday, 20 February 2025.

Chief on the agenda of the meeting between Mr. Shamu, who is the current Member of Parliament for Chegutu constituency in Mashonaland West province and also the current deputy Political Commissar of the ruling ZANU (PF) party and the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Hamid Bakhtiyar, was the urgent need to revitalize the now defunct Zimbabwe - Iran Friendship Association in Zimbabwe.
Both parties agreed to urgently reconstitute the Zimbabwe-Iran Friendship Association, an association that has in the past been at the forefront of advocating for the speedy establishment of mutually beneficial political, cultural, and economic relations between the two countries.
Mr Shamu concurred with Mr Bakhtiyar that there is a need to constitute more meetings to facilitate the speedy reestablishment of the Zimbabwe Friendship Association.
The call for the relaunch of the friendship association follows the recent visit to Zimbabwe by a team of legislators from the Iranian Majlis (parliament) last week. The team was hosted by the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
The two esteemed gentlemen also discussed the expansion of cultural relations between Zimbabwe and Iran for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Mr. Bakhtiyar said the Islamic Republic of Iran is very excited to be playing a part in meeting Zimbabwe’s human capital needs through the availing of scholarships to Zimbabweans in the fields of engineering and medicine, among other critical areas.
