Persian Poetry and Literature Day in the Department of Persian Language and Literature, University of Delhi on 11th September 2023.

Iran Culture House, New Delhi and the Persian Research Center of Saadi Foundation in Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Persian Language and Literature of the University of Delhi organized a day of Persian poetry and literature with the emphasis of Professor Shahriar and Professor Hira Lal Chopra on 11th September 2023 in the Conference hall of University of Delhi.

Iran Culture House, New Delhi and the Persian Research Center of Saadi Foundation in Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Persian Language and Literature of the University of Delhi organized a day of Persian poetry and literature with the emphasis of Professor Shahriar and Professor Hira Lal Chopra on 11th September 2023 in the Conference hall of University of Delhi.

This event was attended Professor Chander Shekar, Head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature and Director of International Relations of Delhi University, Prof. Akhtar Hossein Kazemi, Professor of Persian Language and Literature Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr. Fariduddin Faridasr, Cultural Counselor of I.R. Iran in New Delhi, Mr. Qahraman Soleimani, Director of the Persian Research Center representing the Saadi Foundation of Iran, Professors, Students and Persian language enthusiasts. It started with the welcome by Dr. Ali Akbar Shah.

Professor Chander Shekar officially welcomed Mr. Dr. Fariduddin Faridasr, Cultural Counselor of I.R. Iran, Mr. Qahraman Soleimani, by presenting a bouquet of flowers and shown desire for organizing more literary events with the cooperation of Iran Culture House, New Delhi. Such literary occasions and cultural interactions with culture-loving and literate figures always have an educational aspect for Persian students and there is a place for such activities to be carried out as much as possible.

Professor Akhtar Hossein Kazemi talked about the valuable services of Hira Lal Chopra and reminded of his Persian poems and works in the form of translations and compilations, which were created by the late Chopra during his teaching period of Persian language and literature at Calcutta University.

It is worth mentioning that a documentary on the life of Professor Chopra was also shown with the presence of the deceased's family and descendants, Islamic Republic of Iran appreciated and thanked a lot for that documentary.

And then Mr. Qahraman Soleimani, the Director of the Persian Language Research Center, spoke that the Persian language is tied to the culture of India and has been the official language of this country for 800 years. Apart from the relations between the two countries and the interest between the Farsi-speaking regions, Farsi is a part of the historical background of India.

He further added that India's identity is not possible without Farsi, and for this reason, in the grand plans of the government of this country, a position has been correctly assigned to the Persian language, which shows the intelligence of the planners of the Indian government.

He further added that, this department is often involved in the field of studies and educational structure widely.

Simultaneously with the day of Persian poetry and literature, a commemoration ceremony of Professor Shahryar and Hira Lal Chopra, one of the late professors of Persian language at Calcutta University, was held in the Department of Persian Language at Delhi University.

Professor Chopra was one of the first professors of Persian language after India's Independence, who received a doctorate in this field from Tehran University. Although he was a Hindu, he wrote poems describing the Prophet of Islam and the Imams Athar. He died 26 years ago.

In the final part of the event, Dr. Faridoddin Farid Asr spoke about the contribution and role of India in the development of Persian language and literature and said, if it is not an exaggeration, I believe that the contribution of Indians in promoting and expanding the valuable heritage of Persian literature is not less than that of Iranians. The way Iranians look at India and Indians is very glorifying. He continued and said that in the discourse of the field of Persian literature, Indian style is one of its examples, otherwise, there are many fields that show these influences and influences from both sides. With the recitation of famous ghazals of Master Shahriar, the function was concluded with the refreshment.
