Chavosh-Khawni

This type of poetry is called Chavoshi and the person who sings them is called Chavosh or Chavosh-khwan. Chavosh moves in front of the pilgrims all through the entire route of the pilgrimage, and he is responsible for planning the trip and taking care of the affairs of the caravan throughout the journey. He usually carries a green triangular flag on which is decorated with pictures of shrines and appropriate slogans. Chavosh installs the flag in public places or carries it on his shoulders, inviting people to a pilgrimage by reciting poems. If he is a Sayyid, he wears a green piece of cloth around his neck, otherwise, he wraps a black shawl around himself. Besides a good voice, Chavosh must also have a strong memory, know the rituals of pilgrimage and related prayers, and know the roads and shrines.

After the end of the pilgrimage, he has to return to their place before the others pilgrims to inform the families of the pilgrims of their return and the time of their arrival. Usually, on hearing the news of the arrival of the pilgrims their families send some gifts for the Chavosh.
